Why we built Worthberry around one number
Spending trackers tell you where last week went. We wanted something that shows whether you're getting ahead.
Ask most people how they're doing with money and they'll tell you about last month: the power bill, the weekend away, the thing they probably shouldn't have bought. Ask whether they're getting ahead and it gets quieter. That's the question we wanted to answer.
Spending is half the picture
Budgeting apps are good at the outgoings. But a lot of what you're building sits somewhere else: a retirement fund you check once a year, shares in an investing app, a term deposit at a different bank, a house you've a rough idea of the value of, and a home loan and student loan on the other side of the ledger.
Put all of that together and you get one number: what you own minus what you owe. It's not a score. It's a direction, and once you can see it moving, the everyday decisions make more sense.
Why the name
It's in our name: Worthberry is built around what you're worth, all of it, in plain sight. Once you can see the whole picture, you can plan a deposit and still have brunch on Sunday.
What that means for the app
- Net worth comes first. It's the number at the top of every screen, and it updates as your accounts sync.
- Your country's money, done properly. Fortnightly pay, your retirement savings and your home are built in, not bolted on. We started with New Zealand and go one country at a time.
- Goals use your real numbers. A goal forecasts its date from what you actually save, not what you hope to.
- It's yours. Bank access is read-only, your data is never sold, and paid plans have no ads.
Building it with you
We're in private beta and letting people in a few at a time so we can listen properly. If something's confusing, missing or just wrong, tell us at hello@worthberry.co. We read everything.
